A stage played guitar owned by Eddie Van Halen and gifted to Brad Whitford of Aerosmith fame is up for sale on memorabilia website Reverb with an asking price of $25,674.00.
The purple electric Ernie Ball Music Man guitar is authenticated as number 127 and made on October 4th 1991, and was gifted by Van Halen shortly after.
The description states that Whitford used the guitar regularly on Aerosmith tours up to 2017.
This would have been the first guitar Van Halen and Ernie Ball worked on following Van Halen's break with Kramer, now a division of Gibson.
The guitar includes a 'Property of Aerosmith' sticker and was played for The Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and Balance tours.
Since 2017 the guitar has been in the collection at Donn Bennett's Drum Vault, the largest inventory of rare and vintage drums in the world.
It is being sold with a certificate of authenticity stating:
“This is to certify that the item to which this certificate is attached is genuine and 100 per cent authentic and this item as documented below was owned and played by me, Brad Whitford of Aerosmith.”
Donn Bennett currently has 15 of Brad Whitford's Aerosmith guitars for sale including a Gibson Les Paul Sunburst Bigsby F-Hole at $19,995 and a 2010 Gibson, Les Paul Bigsby also at $19,995.
In April 2021 a Frankenstrat guitar gifted by Van Halen to the Mountain guitarist Leslie West sold at auction for $50,000.
Other notable Eddie Van Halen guitar sales include:
- An EVH Charvel art series sold for $140,800 at Juliens in December 2020
