A pair of John Lennon's spectacles are up for auction. This time with a $25,000 - $35,000 estimate at Gotta Love Rock and Roll Auctions in the US.
The glasses were gifted by Lennon to Hessy's guitar shop in Liverpool and subsequently purchased bya Beatles fan in the USA.
Hessy's famously sold guitars and drum sets to almost all the musicians in Liverrpol including Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
The Windsor reading spectacles have been consigned to auction by the owner's son who inherited them when his father passed way, who also provides a letter of provenance.
Quite a few pairs of Lennon's glasses have hit the auction block in recent years and all have sold well.
The record price paid is the £137,500 for a pair of sunglasses described by Sotheby's as 'The most iconic sunglasses in Rock and Roll history'.
The gold framed glasses, with green tinted lenses, had been gifted to Alan Herring a former chauffeur to The Beatles.
Another pair of round glasses owned by Lennon's housekeeper Dorothy Jarrett sold at Sotheby's for £44,000 in 2020.
'Aunty Dot' was housekeeper at Lennon's home 'Kenwood', at St George's Hill in Weybridge, Surrey, where he lived from summer of 1964 to spring of 1968.
In April 2022 Omega Auctions sold another pair for almost £15,000.
These had been gifted by Lennon to Fred Benton, an employee at the St Regis Hotel in New York where Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed when they moved to America full time in 1971.
Lennon gifted the glasses to Fred as a 21st birthday present.
Gotta Have Rock and Roll sold another pair of Lennon's glasses in December 2020.
The winning bidder paid $28,734, against an estimate of $10,000 - $15,000, for a pair of spectacles used by Lennon when he lived at the Tittenhurst Park house in Ascot, and originally gifted to his neighbour William Connors.
