The John Lennon 1977 engraved lighter was owned and used by John Lennon, a fan of Marlboros at the time, before being gifted to the booking agent Irwin Pate.,

Irwin Pate was the founder of Pate & Associates, who primarily worked for James Brown, but also helped promote The Beatles.

The auction description explains that during his four-decade career, Pate and his wife Clarine had built a sizeable music memorabilia collection, including many personal items from well known celebrities.

During one meeting Pate described his collection to John Lennon who then arranged to send some of his personal items to Irwin, including the engraved lighter.

The item is being sold with a letter of provenance from Clarine Pate, on Pate & Associates headed paper.

The auction also includes an Elvis Presley owned and used cigarette lighter, inscribed 'To Elvis, Love Jane' with a $4,000 - $6,000 estimate,
